The Proofs In The Pudding/Constituted Constitution

I was watching this debate between David Barton, the evangelical minister and US historian vs. Annie Laurie Gaylor from Freedom from Religion, and decided to look up all the references each combatant used. And there were a lot of them.

So you can watch the videos and check out all the references below from the Declaration of Independence, The US Constitution, The Treaty of Tripoli, and the Bible. All the work's been done for you. But just for added measure, I've included some of the links below.



David Barton vs. Annie Laurie Gaylor

David Barton says there are 5 reasons within the Constitution explaining why it is not a Godless document.

First off, Barton establishes a connection between the Declaration of Independence to the Constitution, through article 7 where it states:

The Ratification of the Conventions of nine States, shall be sufficient for the Establishment of this Constitution between the States so ratifying the Same.
Esentially making the documents like one. The D of I sets forth the principles and the Constitution the operation of those principles.

David Barton says God is mentioned 4 times in the Declaration of Indepence…
1 When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

2 We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights

3 WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATED OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the Rectitude of our Intentions

4 And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.
Secondly, Barton says article 1 section 7 states the Sunday Excepted rule shows the recognition by the forefathers of a Sunday Sabbath. Barton states, “There is no religion in the world that has a Sunday Sabbath except for Christianity."
If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him
At this point, Barton, rather than going through his 5 reasons, perhaps realizing that Gaylor probably wouldn’t let him sit there and list all 5 reasons, before the next reason, Barton says, “And finally…” George Washington and Alexander Hamilton derived the idea of separation between church and state from Jeremiah 17:9. If you understand the context of Jeremiah 17, this makes a lot of senes. The king was introducing practices to his people that God did not want them to do, because the they were reckless and harmful.

Then David Barton says the forefathers derived the idea of a three branch government from Isaiah 33:22.
22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us.
David Barton also says article 3 section 3 1st paragraph is almost word for word taken from Deuteronomy 17:6
6 On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.
Keep in mind this is for a heinous crime like treason or murder.

Gaylor states what about Treaty of Tripoli?
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
This excerpt from the Treaty in question is merely stating America wasn’t founded solely on Christianity but rather freedom of religion. So religion, from America’s perspective, in that era, is no reason to go to war.

To my surprise, in the second video, David Barton argues this same point, going on to say that if Gaylor would have read the entire treaty she would have found the same thing.

The show is devoted to the dismal place our country is headed if we don't wake up and smell the progressives.

I think this video series is a fitting post for Memorial Day. In it, David Barton, evangelical minister and expert on US history, shares his thoughts on the men who started our country. David Barton clears up the perception that our country's forefathers were all deists or atheists. On the contrary, most of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence (audio) had a strong background in Christianity, and many were even ministers themselves. If this surprises you, David Barton helps to explain why you might be so surprised, given the agenda of secular America to bury these facts. I think it's important, especially during this holiday, to show respect for the people, both past and present, who gave their lives for our country.

I'm going to present the videos in two different ways. The first is a block containing all the videos for this series. After that, I'll post each video separately.

In this video, Perry Stone has a guest. Rabbi Curt Landry gives a Jewish perspective on Romans 11, where it talks about Gentiles being grafted into the family of God. As you consider the culture it's written for, Paul's passage gains a much deeper and understandable message.

Here's an evangelist with an awesome gift for Biblical teaching. In this particular lesson, he shows where a prophecy in the Bible has been fulfilled. Incredibly the scriptures make the claim that there will be fish in the Dead Sea. As Perry Stone shows us, it's becoming a reality.

The first goal for this website will be for it to be a place were people can hear and learn the truth and hear about God’s free gift of salvation to the world thru his son Jesus Christ.

John 3:16-17 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

the fifth goal for the website is for it to be a place where people can read and look at archeological and scientific things that testify to Biblical matters .

What Is Truth?

John 18:37-38

37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him.
When Jesus was on trial and being questioned by Pilate, the Roman Leader asked Jesus the question, “What is truth?” Sometimes it’s not easy to ascribe tone to situations in the Bible, but in this case, it seems to me Pilate is saying this sarcastically, otherwise Jesus might have answered him.

Jesus actually answers this same question when He was praying for His disciples in the chapter preceding this one.

John 17:16-19
16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Obviously we can tell God’s word is the truth. It’s the best place to find answers for life, like what’s right and what’s wrong. If you’ve never read God’s word, why not start today, it’s called the Bible. A good starting point is the gospels, the first four books of the New Testament, where the life of Christ is recorded by Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, four of the disciples, so that the entire world could see and know Jesus.

Here are a couple songs by Plumb, an artist I really like. She wrote the songs about her child, Solomon, but could also be interpreted as what God might be saying to us on a daily basis. Listen for a couple lines on truth.

Thoughts On Faith

Faith is more than just believing something. It's believing God and trusting what He sayss. Romans 10:17

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
We can't believe and trust unless we read and hear God’s word. It makes perfect sense. You can’t trust somebody unless you read or hear what they say. we need to do more than just believe God and his son Jesus, but we need to trust what they say. God is faithful and just to do what He says.

1 John 1:9
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
We can also trust the Bible because it is God’s word. In the Bible it says that “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”.

Deuteronomy 8:3
3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
Elsewhere in the Bible it says “Scripture is God breathed.”

2 Timothy 3:15-17

Its not only about works – its also about faith. You may be saying, "Wait a second, you’re contradicting yourself." Like I said, you can’t trust somebody unless you hear what they say In a similarly way. If someone asks you to do something sometimes you have to do that thing and see if they’re trustworthy. keep in mind that thing should be safe and ethical.

James 2:14-24
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. 19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. 20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]? 21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. 24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
The quote from the above passage is from the Old Testament. Its found in Genesis 15:6
6 Abram believed the LORD, and He credited it to him as righteousness.
So when I think about faith it also reminds me to trust the Lord and what He says. Some of you may be thinking I’m saying God is a God and Jesus is a God and the Holy Spirit is a God, but They’re all one in the same. Here’s some scripture to back that up.
Genesis 1:1-2
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
John 1:1-2
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
Matthew 28:18-20

These are some songs having to do with Jesus coming back. They are some of my favorites and I just wanted to share them with you. One of the songs is new to me and I thought it was very poignant. The other songs I've known my whole life. The older ones may seem a little cheesy, but the lyrics are fantastic! Take a look and enjoy!
